Dreams Are Just for Dreaming
Why should life go as it should?
Why should happy last forever?
When your dreams flee as you wake
And run from you in terror
Wakeful truth haunts every moment
When you focus on tomorrow
You feel the weakness and the sorrow
Why does hurting last so long?
And sweetness turn so bitter?
The past holds secrets to your future
Barred from the present by condemnation
Situations hold you in your place
And you see life’s fleeting moments
Locked in eternal cold suppression
The weight of mistakes slowly crushes you
But not to death – but to life as it is
There are dreams that cannot be
Waking wonder closes opportunity
Closing your eyes won’t bring it back
The sleep comes but the dream has fled
Awake or asleep your life is led
By a storm of unpleasant certainty
And you can’t touch it or talk to it
Run from it or negotiate
It is what it is whether you leave it or take
And not all storms can be weathered
I had a dream that life would be
Right as rain and good for me
But in the light the morning brings
It doesn’t represent what I saw at night
And as I long for the sun to fall
I know I cannot have it all
Or in part
In the day or in the dark
Your Loss or Mine
O sweet dagger – my heart accepts you
With blood and pain you make me mine
As you draw your name in my blood
Each letter deeper into my death
With your face in my eyes I take my last breath
Is your finger cold?
Or has my warmth poured out?
Lay on me until I sleep
Your weight holds me still – keeps me warm
In the agony- my loss torments me
Your caress leads me home
A bloody trail shows the way
But I die before you join me
Only your memory and your mark eternity holds for me
My loss or yours
The world weeps for me
You weep for yourself
And my blood stains your cheek
And you look young again
And I love you each day
As I always have before
