Dawn

Category: Poem

Dawn sees the sun break through sullen darkness and stir the birds
Who fly with memories of actions past and mistakes in their talons
Deeds done before his love that were not meant to be or meant to last
She sees my eyes pierce past and present when I look her way
Gazing on her face with love although it’s only days
Complete affection for her shows all others in the midst
Water breaks upon the sands and she whispers to him this:
“I love you too, Dear”
Birds swoop and pick at fruit left on the branches nearby
Fruit grown in place for another so sweet to have
Who can tell the ripe from the rest?
Or the chaff from the wheat? Or the easy from the best?
Together fast and hopeful, loving past all others
Hold my hand and walk with me for an age and another
I promise we won’t leave tracks for others to follow
Or get lost along the way
Commit to me your love and affection for uncertain is the day
I’ll protect your heart, and our walk will be long
Sitting side by side to see the beauty of the Dawn
