Nevermind
Across oceans of time on a buoy of hope
With ink etched in dried fiber
Drops of salt water run the words together
But memory holds the meaning well
The sun beats down and dries the words
As the paper is held aloft
Preserved through wash and wave
If twisted just a bit
Long days drive wild thoughts
But those first words burn deep
And as night comes he dreams of those days
Before the storm roiled beneath
He sees her before him, sometimes looking away
In wondered thoughts of yore
Confidence shows in her eyes
As if she wants something to explore
She begs her past for redress from the challenge that lay ahead
But he peers intently past her fears
Gives her hope to grasp instead
And she slowly smiles as if accepting generosity
Days seem like ages
Civilizations arise, crescendo, and then fall
Their sorrow is drowned out and out
By another sirens call
Unwelcome disposition came, alone again
He finds himself afloat
Held up by regret and indecision
He writes to her a note
When we meet again, these words I will speak to you:
I should have left behind the past
Composed and matured anon
Focused just on you alone
And let us carry on
The clouds came quickly overhead
As if driven on the run
The wind blew fiercely from the east
While rain blotted out the sun
The flood was infinitely quiet
As it swept me out to sea
The need to see you once again
Was the buoy that came to me
I swallowed water and tears
My fate seemed assured
But clutch the words I held so dear
Was my final act of courage
I said I’d tell you everything
If God only spared my life
And then the nighttime loneliness
Took me down again and claimed my present life
Time passed as did the water underneath
Left my sorrow far behind
I had seen the world from perspective high
The memories deep within my mind
There she was, from long ago
A new flood caught me from behind
My balance lost, I tumbled to ground
And memories filled my mind
I grasped for the paper and words contained
An olde promise to fulfill
Our eyes matched and thoughts aligned
And it was enough, so Nevermind.
Hyacinth
Thoughts of her provoking sleep
Then eyes wide open
She passes by in her corridor
And I lean in hope of contact
She is sheathed by the sun
Glossy and out of reach
Her smile warms the air
Her beauty breaks the peace
I pretend she knows me
And my solitude slips in this fiction
Pleasant as it is
Time is not on my side
She is a hyacinth girl
And she rides the breeze to sea
And back as a mist on us all
Cooling as she passes
Memories don’t fade
Her vibrance drives away the haze
And memories flood over the years
And today starts to fade into yesterday
She’s a lioness this day
As she passes my way
She peers into mine
And there stops the time
