Seeking Sibyl

August 15th, 2008 | Category: Poem

Sibyl sees all as she peers stooped over supplicant and dreams
Black marble yields strength for her cause
And pleading eyes demand a future bright
She sees what she sees and it drains her color
The Center of the Universe takes its toll on her
Collapsing hope around her causes her to faint and tremble
Gaia’s womb comforts but Apollo beats the war drum
As others seek to come to her eternal flame
That removes shadow and mist from the unknown
And days from her own life
Mount Parnassus in the Valley of Phocis tells a tale
Shrouded in stone and sternness
Phaedriades watches over the sorceress as she dooms and blesses
Those seeking tomorrow’s secrets
Peril awaits many who seek while good fortune favors others
Does your fortitude allow for either as you ponder your fate?
While she peers into your heart to find what is unknown to you
Clear to her with the insight of Apollo
Fear and reason are not oft married
Nor does hope follow the whim of those that ignore
The gift of not knowing
Seek Sibyl if you must
But rather seek the next step on the path of righteousness?

Unless Hope Escape

August 15th, 2008 | Category: Poem

Femme follows fire in deceit and dismay
Prometheus warned but unheeded that day
Unleashed torment from dire mistake
The seal of pithos loosed by Pandora and fate
Hesiod’s tale was weaved with gifts from goddesses
Arced to earth from the heavens- like bolides aflame
Unleashed worship of Mammon from the misdeed of a girl
Life and death interlace in a reflection of vane incantations
Claiming happiness though sad when surrounded by sorrow
Seeming gladness mists the eyes
Holding back the truth as Aphrodite and Hermes did from her on that day of gifting
Works and Days- Ages of Man free from sin and strife
Filled now with doom and decay by actions that day
Wanting something else when you don’t know what you have
Zeus tampered with the flesh of man and lay Pandora in his hand
Yearning deeply for knowledge she peered
All the world was turned for fear- demons poured from fountain frenzy
Filled our hearts with deadly deeds
And passed judgment on the free
Creating the need for hope
Blinding rain for all to see
Begging sunshine bliss to settle soundly
Perseverance conquers suffering profoundly
Epimetheus was sore pleased and from this hope was released
And unless hope escape its earthen vessel
How can man love woman?
