Heliopolis

Category: Poem

Apexing the delta and the Nile, the City sits empty
Nestled in Augustamnica province holding Cleopatra’s Needle
The Pillars stand alone now- waiting for companionship
Actis, Son of Helios and Rhode built well but cannot sustain the life
Necessary to fill the streets with laughter and mirth
Ptolemy’s reign occupied the walls and halls for a time
And even now some approach- walking through lotus fields
Nymphaea lotus, Nymphaea cerulean, and Nelumbo nucifera
Closed at night and underwater- exposed by day to Amun-Ra
Obelisks in patches of overgrown grass surrounded by sand
Lead the way to Heliopolis Reborne
Entering the City transforms and resurrects you
Horus fed the masses with bread before and will soon again
Mouths of gods and goddesses approach nearer still
Amun-Ra notes their approach with waves of sunlit empathy
Alexander stopped on his way from Pelusium to Memphis
Drawn by the warmth of the people and magic in the air
Their tracks in the sand will pause at the gates before they enter
To bring life and love to the City of Pillars once again
Heliopolis will never be the same- and it doesn’t want to be
